As he takes up the reins of Paco Rabanne as Creative Director,Manish Arora admits to being nervous and keeps us guessing as to what his next collection would look like
Think quirk and youll find Manish Aroras name springing up.The design icon has made the likes of Katy Perry,Nicki Minaj,M.I.A.and Lady GaGa his canvas, who are known the world over for their out-of-this-world sense of style.Manish, recently added another colourful feather to his cap when he was announced the new Creative Director,Womenswear Prt,of Franco-Spanish design house,Paco Rabanne.Speaking to CT,he said,I was obviously nervous and ecstatic at the same time. This is a very big move in my career and I hope to do complete justice to it.
The designer, whod made his debut in Paris with his Spring-Summer 2008 collection, said that after that show,he stopped incorporating Indian pop-art elements into his creations.Im inspired by something new each season.I havent disconnected from my Indian heritage but I do not believe in kitsch.I still use traditional Indian embroidery techniques and take it to the next level. This apart, the collection for Paris is designed keeping the European market in mind. Manish also went on record to say that he wouldnt be showing in India, for a while.
To the uninitiated,Paco Rabanne-born Francisco Paco Rabaneda Cuervo, known as the enfant terrible of French fashion in the 1960s,was designing jewellery for Givenchy,Dior and Balenciaga before starting the design house by the same name in 1966.He made his mark with dresses made of metal discs, which made Coco Chanel call him a metal worker.Today,we know Paco Rabanne, through their perfumes.
The label, owned by the European Puig Beauty and Fashion Group, chose Manish as their Creative Director after a five-year-long hiatus from the fashion scene. With no runway collection from Paco Rabanne since 2006,it isnt going to be an easy task for the designer.Manish has been signed up for Paco Rabanne for the next three years and his Spring-Summer 2012 will be unveiled in Paris, this year. But he is not ready to reveal what to expect.Youll have to wait till the next season, said the designer.
