New York-based fashion designerPrabal Gurung has designed an exclusive collection for multi-brand and multi-channel specialty retailer, J.Crew. The collection will be available in select stores and through online shopping forums. This is not the first time, though, that the retailer is taking a leap forward in revolutionizing mens’ and womens’ fashion the world over. First, it was Billy Reid, winner of the Council of Fashion Designers in America (CFDA) Fund, who presented a menswear collection infusing it with his signature Southern hospitality. J Crewnow presents limited edition collections designed by Prabal Gurung, Billy Reid and Eddie Borgo. The latter is famous for his jewellery designs and his collections will be seamlessly blended into J Crew’s aesthetic sensibilities after Reid’s and Gurung’s.
Coming back to Gurung, the J Crew garments designed by him will cost a bit less than the designer’s runway looks but a bit higher than J Crew’s typical signature wares. Gurung has kept his signature motifs alive in his collections fro J Crew. The voluminous ‘exploding’ bows on dresses and blouses can’t be missed. Speaking on the occasion, the young designer said, “If you look closely it’s a little bit off kilter, which gives it that lived-in quality that’s so important. It makes such a strong statement, but, it needs a balance.” So which garment, when paired with it can provide that much needed balance? Gurung tells his J Crew customers to pair the blouses with either pencil skirts or cinched with an old weathered belt worn with wide-legged trousers.
